Reynelda Snell was born and raised in Denver, CO. She began to show signs that she could entertain as early as her infant days. “I remember she would stand up in her crib and hum the melody to numerous songs by Diana Ross”, her mother says. That attraction to music eventually turned into a passion as she cultivated her skills joining the performing arts and choir ensembles in school. This experience also gave her the first taste of theatre in 1994 playing the part of Adelaide in the musical “Guys & Dolls” |
Shortly after graduating high school, Reynelda elected to join a female music group. This catapulted the beginning of what would become a much respected career and reputation in the Western Region. After performing shows for Taste of Colorado and the Black Arts Festival to name a few, the group parted ways in 1996.
Upon collaborating on a soundtrack for an independent movie, Reynelda teamed up with her brother to form the R&B duo group BluSeed. Streetwise and romantic in their retro-soul sound and conception, BluSeed was strongly influenced by classic soul, blues, and hip-hop. Favoring legends such as Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, Johnnie Taylor, & Aretha Franklin, these inspirations were apparent in their lyrics, vocal arrangements and stage presence. They received an abundance of accolades both in the Midwest and Southern states which included the following:
• Performances: UPN Channel 20 Denver, KMGH Channel 7 News; Opening acts for Naughty by Nature, The Alkaholiks, Keith Murray; Showcases at the Fox Theatre, Bluebird Theatre, and The Roxy Theatre - Atlanta, GA., as well as numerous clubs and festivals.
• Recordings: Debut single “Don’t Mind At All”, Tha Bizness (soundtrack), Kingdom: I Reign Omnipotent, Life As I Know It, Don Blas: Don Di Tutti Capi, Ford Soul Expedition Compilation Vol. 1: Feature with Rudy from Sly & the Family Stones, Remedy Radio World soul compilation CD distributed overseas.
• Credits/Accolades: Chosen as one of the top 10 groups in Atlanta, performing at Arista Records feature showcase. Featured “Artist to Watch” on Atlanta’s most popular Internet Radio Broadcast: LiquidSoulRadio.com.
“Independent/Unsigned… What's wrong with R&B today.....TOO MANY want to have a "hip hop" sound...LESS SOUL!! BLU SEED is comprised of a brother and sister (KTONE and REY) team of ARTist. The production of this album is above standard and compliments the writing. But it's the NATURAL talent of BLU SEED that will be evident all over the CD.....Standout songs include the beautiful "Don't Mind At All" off Blu Seed's upcoming debut CD titled "OffSpring". The true blowout song of the album has got to be "COME OVER" where REY simply blows your mind away with here melodic and wonderfully written song composition. BLU SEED is the truth and a very good indicator that the "new" sound of R&B is not forever lost in dumb concept songs...and WEAK writing! PICK THIS ONE UP....Whenever and HOWEVER!.”
-Greii, Remedy Radio World
“This group represents what's missing in music today.”
-Paul Dunlap, Clear Channel Radio
When the duo decided to split in 2003, Reynelda took a long awaited break before returning to the stage assuming the theatrical role of Rosy, an American slave in “Amistad” produced by Grand Design, Inc., directed by Hugo Sayles, which opened to a sold out crowd and immediate success! Theatrical performances to follow include an understudy role in the Shadow Theatre Company production “Four Queens No Trump” directed by Ted Lange, Expressions of an Activist, produced by Grand Design, Inc., the regional debut of the hit musical “Ragtime”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, and “Chicago the Musical”, produced by Boulders Dinner Theatre and directed by Michael Duran. Reynelda recently opened Afterthought Theatre Company and directed their first production “The Meeting” by Jeff Stetson, which opened to a sold out crowd and received critical acclaim!
